Jumpgate Evolution is currently in a closed "FRIENDS & FAMILY" stage of testing. This stage is essentially a bridging stage to prepare for the next phase of testing. The next stage will be Closed Beta and the game is currently accepting closed beta applications from individuals and squads.

NetDevil has stated in numerous developer chats and interviews that their view of alpha and beta may be a little different from what many players expect. They do not intend to open up the game to external testers, even closed beta testers until they are happy that the game is content-rich and pretty much feature complete. This means closed beta will not see any significant additions to the core game but will focus on balancing and polishing the game. Open beta is for marketing. The game will not enter open beta until the developers and publishers are happy that the game could go on the shelves in its current form.

There are 1000 closed beta passes being given to active subscribers playing "Jumpgate classic". While this game is by no means essential to play, it provides a chance for newcomers to get a feel for how Jumpgate Evolution will work. Players still have to register for the Jumpgate Evolution beta and it is not clear, at this point in time, when the entrance into beta will be announced.
